Duncan Mackay is the author of The Secret Thames, a cultural journey along the Thames from source to sea, published by Ebury in 1990; and, Apples, Berkshire, Cider, an A–Z guide to the lost knowledge of Berkshire apples and all things pomological and ciderish, published by Two Rivers Press in 1996. He is currently writing the manuscript for Long, Slow and Wiggly, a cross-section of UK life as experienced on a folding bicycle following the longest straight line in Britain: from the Isle of Wight to Cape Wrath. He is a regular contributor to ecos, the magazine of the British Association of Nature Conservationists. In 1996 he was awarded the Henry Ford European Award for Conservation. Duncan was Commodore of Henley Sailing Club from 2004–2006, and currently works for Natural England.
